The eNotes Blog 5 Epic Ways to Properly Celebrate Epic PiDay
5 Epic Ways to Properly Celebrate Epic PiDay is chock full of nerds, albeità nerds who like to party. So with Epic Pie Day coming up (3/14/15 3.1415!) we couldnt resist wanting to give it proper homage. Here are some ideas we came up with forà EPD thisà Saturday: 1. Epicà Pizza Party When just regular pepperoni wont slice it for Epicà Pie Day,à this listà does. It includes inspirational creations such as pizza fries, pizza lollipops, Nutella pizza, and ghastly monstrosities such as a McDonaldsà Pizza. 2. Epicà Ping Pong Tournament To up the ante on a humdrum Ping Pong tournament, we suggest implementing new rules. Some suggestions Ive personally experienced with much hilarity: Everyone must use non-dominant hand Ball must touch the ceiling each hit Triples! Instead of doubles Balloon ball (not just for kids, trust me!) Allow your cat to play the part of Pi-zilla 3. Epicà Pictionary Pictionary is a great game for groups and parties, and its cost-effective too if you go the DIY route. For more excitement, incorporate these rules: Blindfolded drawing Themed rounds + bonus points for guessing the theme of a round Telephone Pictionaryà (this is SUPER fun) 4. Epicà Pie Swap A proper go-to for Pi Day homage. And while a pie swap might not sound super hip, pies are deliciousà and deliciousness trumps everything (and hip-ness is overrated). If you incorporate some of these pies into the mix, your Pie Party will undoubtedly get epic-fied. Maybe just dont go dancing, swimming, or any other activity that requires even slight movement after especially if someone brings the Twinkie Pie. à 5. Run an Epicà 5.05 Pi k If you were put off byà ideas #1 and #4, this might be the suggestion for you. Instead of a 5k, which is approximately 3.106 miles, opt to runà a 5.05k,à which is approximately 3.1415 miles. To make this more epic, skip doing this (because running is the worst) and stuff your face with someà friggin pie. How to prove youre a leader on your resume
How to prove youre a leader on your resume One of the more common phrases youââ¬â¢ll hear from us and others when crafting your resume is, ââ¬Å"Show, donââ¬â¢t tell.â⬠Itââ¬â¢s kind of like explaining a joke- if you have to do it, then your audience has most likely missed your point. And keep in mind that your audience is likely reading dozens, if not hundreds, of resumes that say things like, ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m a natural leaderâ⬠or ââ¬Å"I am detail-oriented.â⬠Anyone can say those things- what they want to see is that you can do those things in a real-life setting. So letââ¬â¢s look at some key words to show, not tell, your leadership skills. The key element here is using strong, active verbs. Youââ¬â¢re doing! Youââ¬â¢re succeeding! Youââ¬â¢re seizing control! Youââ¬â¢re not passive! Youââ¬â¢re going for Superman, not mild-mannered Clark Kent here. No matter how forceful you are in person, you wonââ¬â¢t get the chance to prove that unless your resume gets past the initial gat ekeeper who reads it. Paint a picture with your words and youââ¬â¢ll get to the in-person step where you can wow them with your personality. If you want to show creativity and innovation, here are words you can use:TransformedPilotedRevitalizedRefinedImprovedModernizedRevitalizedCreatedOriginatedDevisedImplementedTransformedIf you want to show financial leadership, here are words you can use:Streamlined costsSpurred growthDrove growthNegotiatedCut costsReduced overheadIf you want to show efficiency, here are words you can use:StreamlinedSimplifiedIf you want to show team leadership, here are words you can use:MotivatedCoachedLedAdvocatedSupportedMentoredHeadedEngagedEnergizedEmpoweredIf you want to show influential leadership, here are words you can use:InspiredMobilizedNegotiatedInfluencedSteeredWon the support ofLobbiedVocabulary choices may seem like extra homework, and that five minutes with a thesaurus will do the trick. But really, you should treat it like a chance to make y our resume a living document, with real-world examples of the qualities you want your resume reader to see right away. After all, the average resume gets about ten seconds of reading time before the reader either puts it into the ââ¬Å"next stageâ⬠pile or dumps it in the ââ¬Å"next pleaseâ⬠pile. Your chance to make an impression is extremely limited, and good word choices will help you stand out from other people in the crowd who may have similar backgrounds or qualifications. When youââ¬â¢re writing (or revamping) your resume, use these words to come up with more concrete bullet points throughout your resume. Four to six thoughtful, specific examples, combined with these powerful verbs, tell a story much faster and more clearly than six generic bullet points about ââ¬Å"responsibilities.â⬠It shows that you have the experience to back up your statements. And in the meantime, youââ¬â¢re not boring the reader with the 47th rendition of ââ¬Å"I Have Demonstra ted Leadership, Believe Me.â⬠Instead, youââ¬â¢re showing what youââ¬â¢ve done to be a leader.

Blue Ocean Strategy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Blue Ocean Strategy - Essay Example Unlike red oceans, blue oceans create demand from the red oceans by breaking the boundaries of competition (Kim and Maubourgne, 2005). For instance, companies like music recording multinationals, management consulting and pharmaceuticals were hardly heard of in the last 100 years. In this case, companies will have the opportunity to re-create others in order to reflect the emerging realities in economic growth and blue oceans. The authors assert that technological advancements, increased deregulation of markets and improved industrial productivity will enhance creation of blue oceans. Saturation of the developed markets has resulted in to price wars and shrunk profit margins thus the need of a blue ocean strategy (Niciejewska and Dimitrov, 2009). Surprisingly, the authors point out that 86 percent of the surveyed companies seem to be comfortable in red oceans since they have only line extensions while only 14 percent are committed at creating new markets. It is interesting that the s urvey found out that 14 percent of the firms that invested in new market development delivered 38 percent of the revenues and impressive 61 percent of total profits. On the contrary, the 86 percent of firms concentrated on line extensions thus delivering 62 percent of the total revenues and only 39 percent of the total profits (Kim and Mauborgene 4). ... The authors provide an example of Japanese companies of 1980s due to decline of Western companies in droves. The authors agree that competition is important, but companies must attain competitive-advantage and develop markets with minimal or no competition (Warren, 2008). The authors go ahead to provide the logic behind the creation of blue oceans. The article outlines that new technology and innovation will create blue oceans. Some of the blue oceans that have been created by new technology include Ford Model IT and Apple Personal computers. Incumbents also create blue oceans within the existing business like AMC multiplex of 1995 and Palace theaters of 1914. The authors assert that strategic moves define blue oceans and no the size of the industry or companies. Accordingly, blue oceans build existing brands through creating brand equity just like Fordââ¬â¢s Model T that still benefits the company today (Kourdi, 2009). The article differentiates the red oceans from blue oceans si nce Red Ocean strategies compete in the current market space while blue oceans create new uncontested markets. Red oceans aim at beating competition while blue oceans desire to make completion irrelevant. In addition, blue oceans break the value to cost trade off unlike red oceans that make the value to cost trade-off (Koontz and Weihrich, 1990). The authors offer a deep explanation of blue ocean strategy by asserting that such companies reject the fundamental strategies of competition that aim at creating more value for customers or lowering operating costs. The authors offer an example of Cirque du Soleil since at the time of market entry Circuses were benchmarking without raising market revenues. Cirque did not follow the

absolute justice Essay -- essays research papers
Does absolute justice exist or not? This essay will present arguments for the existence of absolute justice. Many people disagree that absolute justice exists. Thus they argue that justice cannot be derived from nature since contradictory and different forms of justice exist in nature; and one cannot derive the greater and perfect from the lesser and imperfect, also they argue that the idea of absolute justice is the ideas of different cultures and times. That is why the idea of justice varies greatly from one culture to the next. The argument used to disprove the above statements will stem from the relationship of order to justice. The next paragraphs will present the arguments above. Culture and philosophy have always gone hand in hand. A person who lived in the Middle Ages thought it to be perfectly just to cut off the hand of a thief. In ââ¬Å"modern timesâ⬠we consider ourselves more ââ¬Å"civilizedâ⬠, and put people in jail or fine them for stealing. As time and culture changed, so does philosophy. Thus any person of sense will see that justice cannot be absolute since it changed with the times. Each culture has developed a different idea of perfect justices to meet their own individual needs. Since more then one form of absolute or perfect justice cannot exist, thus absolute justice does not exist. Rather for each individual society justice is like beauty that it is in the eye of the beholder. Here presented the other case against absolute justice. Their arguments made that absol...

Cone Health Organizational Chart and Structure Essay
The classical theory consists of organizational design that subdivides work and specifies tasks. The classical theory allows the different departments to run with efficiency by giving staff members different task to perform. The classical theory is composed of four elements: division and specialization of labor, chain of command, organizational structure, and span of command. Division and specialization of labor reduces the workload of the employee that will increase proficiency throughout the organization. The chain of command is authority, power, and responsibility delegated from high levels of authority to the lower levels. Organizational structures are how the departments are arranged and how command is maintained and how communication is achieved through a formal system. The span of control is how many employees a manager can effectively manage. (Sullivan, 2012).â⬠¨ The structure of this organization provides for an environment for client centered care by offering services of acute care with different levels of care such as emergency services, med-surgical units, intermediate care unit, intensive care and labor and delivery. Each division is managed by a specific leader, such as the manager, who reports to the chief of nursing. The managers are more in contact with staff and have direct communication with staff members as well as patients in the hospital. This personal level of communication allows for managers effectively to communicate the importance of the mission of the hospital, which is to exceed expectations and provide quality health care to all at all times. With this mission in mind, it can lead to a close relationship with client care. The use of information systems is the way to communicate throughout the hospital to staff members. There are two charting systems used in the organization and an assignment board system in each department. The first one is Emergency Data Management, which is used in the emergency department, and the second is the Meditech, used in the other departments in the hospital. All information systems are visible to all nursing staff but cannot be edited interdepartmentally. Verbal communication method can be in the form of informing peers concerning the level of care already delivered to a patient and expecting others to follow through. We are expected to formally inform each other of what need to be done concerning our patient via the Emergency Data Management and Meditech. The GroupWise E-mail system is used by staff for internal communication and exchange purposes, and it can be accessed both in the hospital and at home via the internal intranet. Information from different departments comes to staff via e-mail, and all are encouraged to check their email daily. Staff members are also provided with a physical mailbox, with their names on it where everyone is provided with departmental information. Decision-making regarding policy change may be done by departmental basis, but must be approved by the chief nursing executive. For example, the standard of work was change in the triage process, but before management implemented the change, it had to be approved by the chief nurse executive, and he or she will decide based on the Nurse Practice Act. Restructuring of nurse leadership is currently in progress to allow nurses to have more input on leadership and its decision making pattern in organizations. The chief nurse executive reports to the regional vice-president of nursing, whereas all directors of each nursing department reports to the chief nurse executive. The organizational structure has its strength and weakness. One weakness that exists in this structure is the lack of communication between departments. Strength in this structure is that the chief-nursing executive is not left to make all decisions on his or her own because they have the help of managers and directors of the different departments. These informal structures of the organization is constantly at test as staff do frequently communicate with each other about what is expected in the plan of care to achieve an efficient client centered care. The charge nurse writing on the assignment board the activity of plan of care into the system as per each department to allocate patients to nurses and the staff nurse reports uses formal communication in the day-to-day operations of the organization the activity of plan of care into the system as per each department. For example there are formal meetings daily with the house supervisor, the managers, and leaders of the department to discuss bed availability in the hospital. Issues of power and control exist between the different floors and the emergency department. There is always competition for staffing resources, and if there is a float pool nurse on call, the charge nurses have to show who has a greater need for the float pool nurse leading to charge nurses to compete for the nurse.â⬠¨ St. Lukeââ¬â¢s Hospital is located in a lower middle-class neighborhood and caters to all ages. The hospital caters socially to the infants and pediatric patients. It has recently expanded the acute-stroke and short-stay unit also known as an observation unit. There are patients of different ethnicities while there are many patients who do not speak English; the use of the language phone has come into use quite often. The language phone removes language barriers between the patient and the health care provider and allows the patient to receive proper care. A lot of patients in the community have stated they come to our hospital because they have read in magazines that we are a great hospital.â⬠¨ Generational differences that influence organizational culture are on the rise in the work environment. There are a great number of new younger nurses coming out of nursing schools, which means new ideas. The older nurses sometimes have problems accepting new nurses because they seem to want to change things. Some of the older nurses feel they are being pushed out of the nursing field by the new nurses and feel they are being forced to retire.â⬠¨ In this paper there has been a discussion of organizational structure and functions, creation of client-centered care, information systems, power issues within the organization as well as decision making abilities. There have been discussions about social and cultural influences and how they integrate into delivery of care in the organization, and finally how generational differences influence organizational culture of the workplace as it shapes the future. It will be appropriate to expect more input into decision making culture via a developed formal and informal system to increase the input from the first responder group-the staff nurses and certified nursing assistants. How to Grow Ammonium Phosphate Crystals
Monoammonium phosphate is one of the chemicals included in commercial crystal growing kits because it is safe and practically foolproof for producing a mass of crystals quickly. The pure chemical yields clear crystals, but you can add food coloring to get any color you desire. The crystal shape is perfect for green emerald crystals. Difficulty: Easy Time Required: 1 day What You Need Monoammonium phosphateHot waterClear container Growing Monoammonium Phosphate Crystals Stir six tablespoons of monoammonium phosphate into 1/2 cup of very hot water in a clear container. I use water heated from an electric drip coffee maker and a drinking glass (which I wash before using it again for beverages).Add food coloring, if desired.Stir until the powder is completely dissolved. Set the container in a location where it wont be disturbed.Within a day, youll have a bed of long, thin crystals blanketing the bottom of the glass, or perhaps a few large, single crystals. Which type of crystals you get depend on the rate at which the solution cools. For large, single crystals, try to cool the solution slowly from very hot down to room temperature. If you get a mass of crystals and wanted one big crystal, you can take a small single crystal and place it in the growing solution (either new solution or the old solution that has been cleared of crystals) and use this seed crystal to grow a large, single crystal. Tips If your powder doesnt completely dissolve, it means your water probably should have been hotter. Its not the end of the world to have undissolved material with these crystals, but if it concerns you, heat the solution in a microwave or on the stove, stirring occasionally, until its clear. Monoammonium phosphate, NH4â⬠¢H2PO4, crystallizes in quadratic prisms. The chemical is used in animal feed, plant fertilizers, and is found in some dry chemical fire extinguishers. This chemical may cause irritation and itching. If you spill it on your skin, wash it off with water. Inhaling the powder may lead to coughing and a sore throat. Monoammomium phosphate is not toxic, but its not exactly edible.
